Durga Puja was observed at the headquarters

   

Durga Puja was observed at the headquarters between 8th and 11th October with Chandipath, Pushpanjali, Bhajans etc. Mahashtami day was celebrated with special Puja and Homa on 9th October followed by distribution of cooked Prasad.

A half day Convention was organized by the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, Trivandrum on Saturday, 27th August, 2016 in connection with the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Sister Nivedita. Venue: Sarva Dharma Bhavan, Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, Thycaud, Trivandrum. After the Welcome Address by Pravrajika Chetanaprana, Secretary of the centre, Pravrajika Jnanadaprana, Assistant Secretary, Sri Sarada Math & Ramakrishna Sarada Mission spoke on Nivedita’s role in the fulfillment of Swamiji’s dream; the importance of women’s education, not only academic, but also acquiring some skill like tailoring, embroidery etc. This was followed by a wonderful exposition of the theme ‘Nivedita’s Love for the Needy and the Poor’ by Pravrajika Ajayaprana, President of Sri Sarada Math, Thrissur, who highlighted how Nivedita taught Indians what service is. Through appropriate anecdotes, Nivedita’s identification with India and her people was beautifully explained. The third lecture was by Pravrajika Divyanandaprana of the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, New Delhi. Topic: Nivedita’s contribution to India. Sister Nivedita made it clear that India was already a nation and it need not be constructed into one, as what holds India as a nation is its cultural unity which lies in spirituality. The power point presentation on the multi-dimensional role Nivedita played for the cause of India made a deep impression on the audience. The programme ended with a skit on Sister Nivedita’s life by the students of the Mission, followed by a few bhajans and the Vote of Thanks. About 150 attended the convention.


The Physiotherapy, Dental and Homoeopathy Departments of the Matribhavan were inaugurated

The Physiotherapy, Dental and Homoeopathy Departments of the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matribhavan were inaugurated on 12th August, 2016 by Dr. Shashi Panja, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of W.B. in the presence of Pravrajika Amalaprana, General Secretary, Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission. Other eminent personalities were also present. About 150 persons (senior monastic members, doctors, devotees and staff of Matribhavan) attended the function.


Flood relief operation was undertaken by Sri Sarada Math, Valsad

   

Flood relief: relief operation was undertaken by Sri Sarada Math, Valsad following continuous rains which flooded three villages and low lying lands along the Auranga river in the early hours of 2nd August, 2016. Immediately tea, biscuits, drinking water, khichuri and other edibles were provided to 125 affected families of Chhapaniya slum area. Later, on 13th August, 265 food kits (containing each 5.5 kg rice, 1 kg mung, 750 mg mung daal, 2 kg sugar, 1 lt. oil, 500 gm salt, 250 gm tea, 100 mg turmeric powder, 100 mg chili powder etc.) and clothes were distributed among the flood victims of Hanuman Bhagada, Kasmirnagar Godiyawad slum area and Bhadeli village of Valsad.


A residential Youth Retreat was held at Sri Sarada Math, Pune

A residential Youth Retreat was held at Sri Sarada Math, Pune on 9th and 10th July, 2016. Theme: Whatever you think, that you will be.

The retreat started on 9th July with shanti mantras by the Sannyasinis followed by a session on guided meditation by Pravrajika Amalaprana, General Secretary, who then blessed the young audience to realize the noble goal of life. Other speakers spoke on Swamiji’s teachings and his emphasis on the recognition of women as centre of the family and also of society, the importance of simplicity, loyalty, purity and such traits of character. There was a group discussion on selected passages of Swamiji’s works. After lunch, there was an audio-visual presentation on the history of Sri Sarada Math and its contribution to the society. In the next session, ‘Margaret Noble to Sister Nivedita’, Pravrajika Amalaprana analyzed how this transformation could take place through her Guru’s blessings. On the following day, 10th July, the General Secretary advised all to pray before starting any work and also at night before retiring, for the betterment of one’s self and also of the world. After speeches by other speakers on different aspects of how to overcome stress and family problems, there was a power point presentation on Swami Kalyanananda and Swami Nischayananda and their unique sacrifice and selfless service. This was followed by a discussion on Sister Nivedita’s complete dedication to the call of her Guru to serve India in a spirit of respect and love.

The session on Holy Mother by Pravrajika Amalaprana explored Her divine qualities and life. All present experienced the Mother’s love and blessings. In all 140 girls and ladies attended the two-day retreat.


Fire relief work was conducted by the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, Kantanagar

Fire relief work was conducted by the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, Kantanagar centre at Sultanpur Village, Dist. Murshidabad on 25th May, 2016, where 44 huts were completely burnt and 7 huts, badly damaged. Sarees, lungis, bedsheets, mosquito nets, umbrellas, mats etc. were distributed among 200 victims, while school bags and study materials were given to 70 students.
