Obituary

Mahasamadhi of Revered Pravraika Vishwaprana Mataji

With deep sorrow we record the passing away of Pravrajika Viswaprana, age 88, Vice President of Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission on Saturday, 3rd December, 2016 at 8.40 p.m. at the Sister Nivedita Girls School following multiple organ failure. She was conscious till the end.

In 2014, she was diagnosed with carcinoma ovary complicated with metastasis in mesenteric lymph nodes. She underwent a course of chemotherapy at the Tata Medical Centre, New Town, which had helped her to a certain extent. However from September 2016, her condition deteriorated rapidly leading to intense breathing distress. But the end was peaceful.

A disciple of Swami Virajananda, she lived in an Ashrama from a young age and in 1950, along with others, joined the Ramakrishna Mission at the Nivedita School as dedicated worker. She was initiated into Brahmacharya in 1956 by Swami Sankarananda in the old shrine of Belur Math, and received Sannyasa in 1960 from Pravrajika Bharatiprana, the first President of Sri Sarada Math. Most of the time, she stayed at the Nivedita School where she meticulously kept the accounts. In due course, she was appointed assistant secretary and later treasurer of the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Sister Nivedita Girls School. In 1996, she was appointed president of Sri Sarada Math, Bhubaneswar, where she stayed till 1997 when she returned to Nivedita School. Except for three years (2005-2008) spent at the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission centre at Siriti, she lived mostly in Nivedita School. In April 2009, she was appointed Trustee of Sri Sarada Math and Member of the Governing Body of the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, and in 2011, was authorized to give mantradiksha. She was elected Vice President of Sri Sarada Math and Ramakrishna Sarada Mission in 2012.

Simple, reserved and straightforward, she was a perfectionist in all things. A person of few words, she will be remembered for her remarkable presence of mind while facing critical situations. May her soul rest in eternal peace!

On 15th December, 2016, there was special puja and Bhandara for her at the headquarters. About 1000 partook of prasad in hand. A booklet on her life was released on that day.

Pravraika Vimuktaprana

We record with deep sorrow the passing away of Pravrajika Vimuktaprana, age 81, on Friday, 16th December 2016 at 10.10 a.m. at the Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan. She was under ventilator support due to terminal stage of fibrosis. Mataji was a Trustee of Sri Sarada Math and Member of the Governing Body of Ramakrishna Sarada Mission, and Secretary of the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission centre at Siriti, Kolkata. May her soul rest in peace!

If you want peace of mind, do not find fault with others. Rather learn to see your own faults. Make the whole world your own. No one is a stranger, my child; this is your own.
